What is Proposition 65?
Proposition 65 is a California regulation that requires warnings on products that may expose consumers to certain listed chemicals above extremely low thresholds set by the state.
These thresholds are far more conservative than federal or international safety standards. As a result, Prop 65 warnings are common across California and appear on everything from food and supplements to coffee shops and parking garages.
Why do supplements sometimes carry this warning?
Trace amounts of heavy metals like lead can occur naturally in raw materials due to soil and water exposure. This applies across the food and supplement industry—even when ingredients are responsibly sourced and properly tested.
A Prop 65 warning does not mean a product is unsafe. It means California requires a disclosure based on its own limits.
